Overwhelm (When attacking an enemy unit, deal excess damage to the opponent's base.) Each friendly unit that costs 3 or less gets +1/+0 and gains Overwhelm while attacking an enemy unit.
Abilities that refer to a card’s cost always refer to its printed cost, regardless of modifiers. If you use Moff Gideon’s leader ability, you must attack with a unit that costs 3 or less, if able. Units must be ready in order to attack. Shields prevent all damage from a unit with Overwhelm. There is no excess damage since the defender is not defeated. If the defender is defeated before combat damage is dealt, the attacker is still considered to be attacking a unit, and all damage is considered excess damage for the purpose of Overwhelm.
